Training staff about how to use their PPE isn’t enough—you also need them how to take care of their PPE so that it does what it’s designed to be – keep them safe.

Here’s the first of our tips on taking care of Hard Hats:

  • Replace a hard hat if it is cracked, dented, or has taken a heavy blow – be ruthless with this one – throw it out.
  • Store head protection in the shade, away from extreme temperatures, and in a safe place where they can’t get damaged.
  • Check the headband and lining to make sure that it isn’t stretched, worn or unhygienic and that the hat fits comfortably on the head.
  • Hard hats should be washed regularly with warm water and detergent and allowed to dry before use.
